The Orange Show

The Orange Show — Art Car Parade

The Art Car Parade  Ball and Orange Show

May 9, 2014. — Smile, smile, smile, I’ve been smiling all night! I never smile, really, but The Art Car Parade Ball made me smile, made the Mayor of Houston smile, make the appeals court judges smile. Everyone was so nice to me! They were open and talked and took photos of each other. Wow, I’m so glad I came! The bands, the art cars, the drinks and food, the atmosphere, all conspired to make smiles be. It was like simile only smiles, probably because of the extra “i” that wasn’t apparent anywhere. The guards from Allied Barton smiled, most of them. I saw nothing intimidating. Everyone could go next year and smile, too. And TOMORROW afternoon is the Art Car Parade.

Small bit of disclosure, here. For 20 or so years the fact that the Orange Show had offered me Carte Blanche for the use of their stage, “whenever I want to do a show” kept me carrying on through the Enron years and The RTC years, not playing there, but knowing I COULD play there if I ever had an important show to bring there. So, a few years ago, when I DID have what I thought was an important show to do, I thought I would honor the Orange Show stage with the world premiere of this wonderful show I was about to do. What do you know? Things Change. They emailed me to say “We’re big now. We’re important and nationwide, so you can’t play here” Well…… at least the thought that I COULD play there kept me going all those years.

I might not have wanted to do a good review tonight because I’d been disrespected, but I can’t let that old stuff effect me. I’m still smiling. Going to the Art Car Parade Ball was one of the coolest things I’ve done in a while. Smile on, because I am.
