Lackadaisical — Not to Mean Lacking Daisy, Daisy Give Me Your Answer Do.

September 21, 2014 —  To me, actually citing the melodies of the folk songs in ‘Five Folksongs in Counterpoint’ didn’t heighten the music and, maybe, felt like it pandered to the audience a bit.  The Counterpoint was largely lackadaisical, with some notable exceptions.  WE GOT A LIBBY WORLD PREMIERE! The above recording is the actual commissioned piece as played that night.

Quintet in E-flat Major for 2 violins, 2 violas and cello by Antonin Dvorak kept me awake and alert, in spite of the slip-ups.  I was moved and happy to have heard it played by Apollo Chamber and their guest artist, the tall fiddler.
