The Mother of All Exercises
The fingers on the left hand are named “Thumb”, “1” (index), “2” (middle), “3” (ring), and “4” (pinky)
play frets 1, 2 , 3, 4 on the thickest string (6th string) with the 1,2,3,4, fingers, then
play frets 1,2,3,4 on the 5th string with the 1,2,3,4, fingers, then
play frets 1,2,3,4 on the 4th string with the 1,2,3,4, fingers, then
play frets 1,2,3,4 on the 3th string with the 1,2,3,4, fingers, then
play frets 1,2,3,4 on the 2th string with the 1,2,3,4, fingers, then
play frets 1,2,3,4 on the 1th string with the 1,2,3,4, fingers, then
come back down by playing
frets 4,3,2,1 on the 1st string with the 4,3,2,1 fingers, respectively, then
play frets 4.3.2.1 on the 2nd string with the 4,3,2,1 fingers, then
play frets 4.3.2.1 on the 3rd string with the 4,3,2,1 fingers, then
play frets 4.3.2.1 on the 4th string with the 4,3,2,1 fingers, then
play frets 4.3.2.1 on the 5th string with the 4,3,2,1 fingers, then
play frets 4.3.2.1 on the 6th string with the 4,3,2,1 fingers,
Then do the same thing starting on the 2nd fret — go up and down like the above
fingers 1,2,3,4, playing frets 2,3,4,5 (this time) etc, etc,
once you finish on the 2nd fret move up to the 3rd fret and up the neck
Then finish by coming back down the neck, the same way, one fret at a time.
